Taking summer programming into account, Rai’s production over the 12 months compared to the same period in 2016-2017, reported a slight decrease (- 7 hours), while Mediaset regained the seasonal fall by levelling off the volume of hours over all 12 months.

From June to August 2018:

  • Rai confirmed Un posto al sole within its summer programming and aired the series Tutto può succedere 3 on Raiuno.
  • Mediaset aired two thirds of its long-length primetime series Sacrificio d’amore on Canale 5.

In a substantially stable framework, the most significant novelty lies in Netflix debuting with the production of TV fiction on the Italian scenario: its offer compensates the zero hours produced by Discovery, the new entry of the past season.

 Season 2016-2017 vs season 2017-2018

  • Rai broadcasts original Italian TV fiction on four channels. The slight interseasonal decrease of Raiuno is compensated by the increase in supply by Raitre and Raidue (that increases its TV fiction volume mainly thanks to the new season of a historical Mediaset sitcom, Camera Café, produced and aired for the first time on Raidue.)
  • Mediaset broadcasts TV fiction only on Canale 5 that has decreased its number of hours compared to the past season for programming and not production choices (summer offer has increased.)
  • Sky. On Sky Atlantic/Sky Cinema, a long-length drama is missing (In Treatment). The novelty lies in a primetime title produced for TV8, a free DDT channel.
  • Disney Channel has increased its production from one to two series, increasing its offer significantly.
