Notes on the method

The 2017-2018 seasonal balance survey examines all primetime Italian TV fiction broadcasted by Rai, Mediaset, Sky, Disney, Discovery, Netflix. Only where expressly indicated, re-runs are included.

The time span examined is a period of twelve months divided as follows:

• Season (from September 2017 to May 2018)
• Summer (from June 2018 to August 2018)

This report contains elaborations concerning season 2017-2018 and summer 2018 but it also breaks down and analyzes the diachronic trends of many variables (number of hours, evenings, titles). The diachronic season line-up begins with 2006-2007 that recorded the highest volume of TV fiction ever supplied by Rai and Mediaset till today.

Data referring to Season 2017-2018 or to interseasonal comparisons (2017-2018 vs 2016-2017) take into account the content of Rai, Mediaset, Sky, Disney, Netflix. The entry of Sky, Disney and Discovery within the group of Italian TV fiction buyers is (more or less) recent and for this reason, only Rai and Mediaset content is considered in the diachronic series.

For the first time, OFI monitoring also includes original Italian TV fiction produced by Netflix.
