The cumulative value shown here includes investments in films for movie theaters1, series and video-television films (TV + VOD), in animation programs and entertainment commissioning, in documentaries, and all other video-television genres (current affairs and in-depth programs, talk shows, cultural magazines, etc.). A general increase in demand for titles, tax credit on audiovisual production and growth of the SVOD market (which offset the stagnation/contraction of the television market) have contributed to a positive performance of the sector which has evolved in contrast with the audiovisual market and with the macro-economic trends.
At nominal values, the gross domestic product and the audiovisual market have evolved between 2017 and 2021 at a CAGR of 0.6% while the audiovisual production sector performed a CAGR of 8.2% in the same period.

In 2021, investments in original production of entertainment programs and other video-television genres (documentaries, current affairs and in-depth programs, talk shows, cultural magazines, etc.) increased. Below are the values relating to the expenditure of external television operators (commissioning) only, and only if such spending was invested in production activities2.
The value shown here is due significantly as part of the expenditure made by linear TV operators and significantly as the expenditure on entertainment programs. However, the spending of non-linear operators (GVPs, Global Video Platforms) has also grown, shyly entering the entertainment market.

In 2021, investments in animation titles rounded € 47 million, growing also due to the first investments in the genre made by non-linear operators (GVPs, Global Video Platforms). Most of the production of original animation titles is generated thanks to the investments of the public service television operator and resources from domestic and foreign producers.
