Fiction production 2017 – 2020
The value of fiction content created for linear and non-linear platforms grew by 28% in 2020 thanks to the increase in the expenditure of VoD operators and the contribution growth of producers, supported by the increase in Tax Credit and the success of the health protocol signed by the associations and trade union organizations. The contribution of foreign producers is also significant, proof of the interest in Italian original content.
The contribution of SVoD operators is worth about 15% the total production costs. The value is up by 4% compared to 2019.
Linear TV operators contribute by 42%, approximately € 260 million. In absolute terms, this is a stable commitment compared to previous years.

– The values shown here are the result of eMedia’s elaborations on data provided by operators on the demand side (audiovisual producers, linear TV operators, and VoD operators) and on the analysis of company financial statements. In regard to the value of theatrical production, Mibact / DG Cinema data were used and in the absence of these (2019 and 2020) estimates were made which must be considered entirely provisional.
– The estimate does not include expenditure on in-house productions made by TV operators in all genres (news, sports, entertainment, in-depth programs, etc.)
