Compared to the previous season, the overall offer of original Italian fiction is down (- 38 hours).
The TV fiction produced by specialized networks and platforms outside Rai and Mediaset (Others) has increased compared to the previous season and has more than doubled over the last five seasons.

(*) The webseries Skam Italia 4 (4 hours) is counted in both the hour volume of Netflix and Timvision, for a total of 461 hours (compared to the actual 457 hours).
In a market where the demand and the weight of newcomers such as Netflix are growing sensibly, Rai is yet the absolute leader in the production of Italian fiction, offering three quarters of the seasonal hour volume.

The decrease in offer of Rai and Mediaset is linked to the Covid emergency.
Rai. The closure of production sets deferred the filmmaking of Un posto al sole and of Il paradiso delle signore, causing a gap in the daily programming of the two serials for a few months.
Mediaset. Following the downturn in the advertising market, this private broadcaster has chosen to postpone the airing of a few titles already produced.
The original Italian production offer on specialized networks (Sky, Fox) and on Netflix (which has doubled its hour volume compared to the previous season) is growing. Amazon Prime has made its Italian production debut with a low budget series.

The Covid emergency has had a depressing effect on the domestic linear TV fiction offer, which immediately suffered from the closure of the production sets of daily series and the prospective decision of preserving some titles in view of a more profitable future programming placement. Overall, original Italian fiction on Rai, Mediaset, Sky, Fox, Disney networks has dropped by 57 hours between seasons.
Although still in large minority, the offer of original Italian fiction on streaming platforms (Netflix, Raiplay, Timvision, Amazon Prime) has doubled, compared to the past season (+ 19 hours,) passing from 4% to 9% of the total.

Rai is also the only operator that supplies fiction across the entire distribution spectrum: generalist (Raiuno) and semi-generalist (Raidue, Raitre) channels, specialty channels (Rai Gulp) and, a real novelty for the Season, its streaming platform, Raiplay.
