  • This Season has featured 37 active producers: 3 more compared to 2019-2020, as a result of the increase in produced titles (+3)
  • As for the past seasons, the phenomenon of co-productions among Italian producers is confirmed: 6 titles were realized by two or three producers.
  • Fragmentation has decreased, while the average hour volume per producer has increased. However, Season 2020-2021 displays one of the lowest figures in the last five seasons.
  • Polarization is once again very high: 7 producers have a seasonal output above average (16.2 hours). Overall, these producers (a fifth of the active producers of the Season) produce 65% of the total hour volume. These figures closely follow those of the past Season (9 producers above average for 67% of the total hour volume).

  • Rai is once again the main player of Italian fiction: alone it employs more producers than all other TV operators put together. 
  • 29 producers work for a single operator (78% compared to the 73% of the previous season); 7 produced fiction for two operators; only 1 (Cattleya) produced fiction for four operators (Rai, Mediaset, Sky, Netflix).
  • 25 producers realized a single title (67% compared to the 59% of the previous season); the most active among the 12 production companies that produced more than 2 titles: Picomedia and Stand by Me (4 titles each), Lux Vide (5 titles), Cattleya (7 titles).
  • The general effect of these figures is an increase in polarization between major and minor producers.

  • In 2020-2021, 30 producers realized primetime titles, one more compared to the past season, for a decrease of 11 evenings. The average number of evenings per producer has thus decreased.
  • The average number of evenings per producer has consistently decreased over the last 4 seasons. This is further indicator of the production system fragmentation that reflects the fragmentation of the distribution system. Titles produced for outside primetime slots have increased. These titles are produced: a) for streaming platforms; b) for specialized channels (like Rai Gulp). 
  • In 2020-2021, 3 productions companies produced titles for more than 10 evenings (Lux Vide, Cattleya and Picomedia) – altogether 37% of the primetime seasonal fiction. In 2019-2020 producers with more than 10 active evenings were 2 and together produced 32% of the overall number of evenings. These figures confirm the prominent polarization between primetime producers, as well.
