Average hour volume per producer
Trend of the last 5 seasons (Season+Summer)

Source: OFI

This Season featured 34 active producers: 3 more compared to 2018-2019, as a result of the increase in produced titles.

As for the past season, the phenomenon of co-productions among Italian producers was confirmed: 5 titles were realized by two producers, 1 title involved three production companies.

Fragmentation has increased, while the average hour volume per producer has decreased. Season 2019-2020 displays the lowest figure in the last five seasons.

Polarization is once again very high: 9 producers have a seasonal output above the seasonal average (14.7 hours). Overall, these producers (less than a third of those active in the Season) produce 67% of the total hour volume. These figures closely follow those of the past Season (8 producers above average for 68% of the total hour volume).

Total producers: 34

Rai is once again the main buyer of Italian fiction: alone it employs more producers than all other drama buyers put together.

The increase in number of potential buyers (this Season records Amazon Prime as a new entry and an increase in satellite and streaming platforms titles) unleashes new space for indie players. The effect is an increase in polarization between large and small producers.

Players who produce fiction for three different buyers have increased from 2 to 4 between seasons. These are Lux Vide (6 titles), Wildside (5 titles), Cattleya and Cross Production (3 titles each.)

20 players produced a single title (59% of the active producers vs 58% in the previous Season); those who work for a single buyer are 25 (73% of those active in the Season vs 68% in the previous one).

Average number of evenings per producer
Trend of the last 5 seasons (Season+summer)

Source: OFI

In 2019-2020, 29 producers realized primetime fiction, for a total of 183 evenings. Between seasons, primetime producers have increased (+ 4) compared to a slight decrease in number of evenings (- 6).

The average number of evenings per producer has decreased, recording the minimum value of the last 5 seasons. This further indicator of the production system fragmentation reflects the fragmentation of the distribution system. Titles produced by new operators (streaming platforms) have in fact increased without translating into primetime evenings.

In Season 2019-2020 only two production companies produced more than 10 evenings (Lux Vide and Wildside, who together produce 32% of the primetime Seasonal evenings). In comparison, in 2018-2019 six producers realized more than 10 evenings, for a total of 48% of the evenings.
