Notes on the method

The 2019-2020 seasonal balance analyses the entire Italian primetime original fiction production televised on Rai, Mediaset, Sky, Disney, Fox, Netflix, Timvision, Amazon Prime. Only where expressly indicated, in addition to primetime fiction, the data also include reruns.

The study refers to a period of twelve months and is divided as such:

• Season (from September 2, 2019 to June 12, 2019)
• Summer (from June 13, 2019 to August 30, 2019)

The data presented in the first 4 sections (Volume of hours; Number of titles, formats and episodes length; Programming; Ratings) are related to the Season. Those shown in the last section (Producers) are based on the entire time frame (Season + Summer).

This report contains elaborations related to the 2019-2020 Season and to the 2020 Summer timeframes, but it also structures and analyzes the diachronic trend concerning many variables (hours, evenings, titles) of the last five seasons.

Elaborations regarding the hour volume and the number of titles and episodes was carried out on the original Italian fiction supply of all operators.

The data on TV programming (time slots and evenings) refer to the offer of linear TV networks (Rai, Mediaset, Sky, Disney, Fox channels) and do not take into account fiction produced by streaming platforms (Netflix, Raiplay, Timvision, Amazon Prime,) which is offered beyond programming logistics.
