Time slots

Italian primetime fiction still has the highest hour volume but compared to last season, there has been a programming redistribution in favor of Outside PT time slots. A change that is partly contingent (the recovery of the “entire” season of Il paradiso delle Signore), partly the result of new titles (the growth of Rai Ragazzi’s original production).

Between seasons, Rai fiction has grown, both in primetime and in the other time slots. Fiction scheduled outside of primetime has increased the most (+ 52 hours) thanks to the growth of Rai Gulp’s original productions (broadcast mainly in access primetime) and to the daily series Il Paradiso delle Signore, aired all season long, unlike 2019-2020 when programming was suspended for a few months following the productions closure due to Covid.

• Compared to last season, Italian original primetime evenings have decreased (- 12). 
• The most evident contraction (- 9) is recorded in the category “Others.” In the past seasons this definition included primetime fiction programmed by Sky, Fox and/or Disney, while this season “Others” includes only Sky evenings.

Rai’s primetime offer is in slight decline. Yet it still supplies little less than two thirds of the overall Italian primetime original fiction aired in 2020-2021.
