• Compared to last season, the number of Italian original fiction titles has grown by 12 units.

Rai is once again absolute leader in the offer of Italian fiction, as well as in the number of titles (having produced more than half of the overall number of titles produced by all players). It is however down compared to last season’s 64% share.

• The 2021-2022 seasonal fiction supply is almost entirely based on TV series.
• Limited series (max 8 episodes / 4 evenings) are the fastest growing format (+ 8 titles) for the second year in a row. They can be considered the favorite format of Italian fiction, this season covering more than half the number of titles.
• The number of series (medium and long) – the second most popular format – is stable.
• The number of TV movies is limited but growing compared to last season.
• Collections and dailies are the least in number and are included in Rai’s offer only.

• Limited series is the format with the highest number of titles in the offer of all the Italian fiction operators, with the exception of Amazon.
• Rai offers more than half the seasonal titles. It is the only producer that covers all format ranges and continues to combine limited series with a significant number of medium and long series.

Long-length episodes (90’ – 100’)
78 titles, 21 more than last season.
This format is used by linear TV, bound to the programming for number of evenings. Utilizzati dalla fiction della tv lineare, legata alla programmazione per “serate”. Rai, Mediaset and Sky produce TV Movies and some primetime TV series in this format.

Medium-length episodes (40’ – 60’)
409 titles, 7 more than last season.
This format is the most transversal, as for operators and programming. Medium-length episodes are found in primetime series and in the soap opera Il paradiso delle signore.

Short-length episodes (5’ – 30’)
304 titles, 87 less than last season.
This format is used for Raitre’s soap opera Un posto al sole, Raigulp’s series, and some platform serial production.
