The Walt Disney Company will acquire operational control of Hulu, a well-known streaming video platform thanks to an agreement with Comcast.
Comcast will ask Disney, as early as January 2024, to buy the 33% stake owned by NBCUniversal (a Comcast division). In turn, Disney can ask NBCUniversal to sell its stake at the up-to-date market value.
The market value will be determined by independent experts but in the press release of the announcement it is stated that: “Disney guarantees a sale price for Comcast which represents a total minimum value of Hulu of 27.5 billion”.
Disney had already increased its share in Hulu by purchasing 21st Century Fox entertainment assets.
